BIRDCAGE SCAFFOLDS

Birdcage Scaffolding in Romford, London & Essex

Five Oaks Access provide birdcage scaffolding across Romford, London, Essex and the surrounding areas. Birdcage scaffold gives you a full working platform across an entire area, making it ideal for ceilings, atriums, large open spaces and interior work at height.

We are a CHAS accredited scaffolding company based in Romford with over 30 years of experience on commercial, industrial and heritage projects.

What Is Birdcage Scaffolding?

A birdcage scaffold is a freestanding structure made up of rows of standards (vertical tubes) connected by ledgers and transoms in both directions. The result is a platform that covers the full floor area beneath it, rather than just the perimeter of a wall.

It is called a birdcage because the grid of tubes resembles a cage when you look up at it from below. The key advantage is that it provides safe, stable access across the entire ceiling or overhead area.

Common Uses

  • Ceiling painting and plastering in large rooms
  • Church and heritage building restoration
  • Atrium and void access in commercial buildings
  • Lighting installation in warehouses and halls
  • Sprinkler and M&E installation at height
  • Internal inspection and survey work

Our Approach

We design the birdcage to fit the exact dimensions of the space, taking into account ceiling height, floor loading, obstructions and the type of work being carried out. The scaffold is fully boarded at the working level with handrails and toe boards.

For heritage and conservation projects, we take extra care to protect floors, walls and fixtures during erection and dismantling.

Common Questions

How much does birdcage scaffolding cost?

The cost depends on the floor area, ceiling height and hire period. We provide free quotes for every project.

Can you build a birdcage scaffold inside an occupied building?

Yes. We regularly erect birdcage scaffolding inside occupied commercial buildings, churches and public buildings. We work around access requirements and minimise disruption.

How long does it take to erect?

It depends on the size and height. A typical room-sized birdcage can be erected within a day. Larger areas may take two to three days.
